Archdiocese of Songea

The Catholic Archdiocese of Songea is located in the southern highlands of Tanzania. The Diocesan geographical position is not the same as that of Ruvuma region as Tunduru district lies within Tunduru Masasi diocese and Mbinga district lies within Mbinga diocese. Songea Archdiocese is sharing the borders with Mozambique to the immediate south, Mbinga diocese to the west, Njombe diocese to the north and Tunduru Masasi diocese to the east. The Diocese was found in 1954 and its core business is Evangelization that can be explained as the taking care of the person in totality i.e. soul and body (holistic evangelism). In this sense the Archdiocese of Songea is preaching with the whole church on the world about Development of the whole person to maturity that is a process to be a son and daughter of God. The Diocese covers 38600sq.km
