What We Do


Caritas is about more than daily survival. Our work is about ensuring the poorest and most marginalized are the driving force in food and income security, gender and development, land access, use and management among smallholder farmers, emergencies and relief, promote sustainable agriculture, climate change and advocate for fair and justice. To achieve this, caritas and development Archdiocese of Songea focus on three key areas:

ยท Agriculture 
Caritas and development through its agricultural section , impliments various projects with its vision to contribute towards increased income and improved food security and food soveregnity among smallholder farmers in rural and urban areas. Projects under this section also focus much on natural resources conservation for sustainable development among rural communities from Namtumbo and songea districts of Ruvuma region.

ยท Gender and development 
Under this section Caritas Songea ensure the maximum participation of both men and women in economic , social and political activities. Caritas focus much on youth out of school , vurnarable women particularly single mothers. Also this section impliments community Saving and credit scheme (through Saving and Internal Lending Communities (SILC)  approach) programs.

ยท Emergency and relief 
Caritas and development of the archdiocese of Songea(CDASO) is also  responsible for emergency and relief programs, currently this section depend much on contribution from church through GOOD SAMARITAN SUNDAY and from the donation . All collections are distributed to the  people most in need like elderly, dis ables,sick people, orphans and vulnerable children.

Currently, Caritas Songea is implementing projects in three districts such as Namtumbo, Songea Rural and Mbinga as here under:-
1.      Integrated Rural Development and Women Economic and Socio Empowerment (IRD)
2.      Lobbying and Advocacy Project 
3.      Scaling Out Integrated Soil Fertility Management Technologies (ISFM)
4.      Soya Beans Value Chain (SOYA NI PESA)
